ART: Sofia Maldonado

The Essence

Emerging artist Sofia Maldonado is generating a new kind of art for herself and leading a group of local Puerto Rican artists in revitalizing Puerto Rico with their public art. The initiative, Cromática, Caguas a Color, transforms several unused buildings throughout the city while serving as a model for artistic revitalization and community engagement.

The Approach

We worked with Sofia to bring a series of activities that include documentaries, panels, and talks for children and adults to the Puerto Rican community. The talks ranged on topics from art, community initiatives, new economies, design, health, amongst others. Hence this project is not only beautifying Puerto Rico’s public spaces, it is also impacting community building and engagement in Caguas and throughout the island.
